The Subjective Perception of Workers from Local Self-support Center concerning "Self-support Programs"

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore the subjective perception of workers from local self-support center concerning ¡®self-support programs¡¯, categorize this, and suggest possible ways to improve self-support programs. With 42 statements related to self-support program, Q-sorting was conducted to 15 workers from local self-support centers. Through Q-methodology, four types and features of their subjective perception about ¡®self-support programs¡¯ turned out as follows. First type is ¡®local community resource utilization orientation¡¯. Second type is a ¡®governmental support orientation¡¯. Third type is ¡®participant capability reinforcement orientation.¡¯ Fourth type is a ¡®local self-support center function augmentation orientation¡¯. The results of the present study have several implications. First of all, more local community resources should be utilized for activating self-support programs. Second, governmental financial support should be secured. Third, self-support program should take into account different needs and capabilities of the participants. Last but not least, work force and functions should be expanded for the sake of reinforcing or empowering the role of local self-support center.
